O'Rourke Cup Round 1: Padraig Pearses 0-12 Boyle 0-10
Pearses senior footballers got our season off to a winning start with a hard fought win over Boyle in difficult conditions in Abbey Park on Sunday last.
First half points from Emmett Kelly (3) and Hubert D'Arcy from a free was just enough to keep us in touch and we went in at the break trailing by seven points to four. A much improved second half showing, including five unanswered points in the first 13 minutes put us in a strong position going into the final quarter. All substitutes introduced contributed positively with our scores from play from Conor Payne and Séan Fahy (2) and the remainder from Hubert D'Arcy frees.
It was great to see a large Pearses panel travel on the day, with 20 players were used in the game including Minor players Paul Carey and Andrew Flood, who both made their O'Rourke cup debuts. Congratulations to the Roscommon Senior Footballers on winning the FBD League today in particular Pearses Representitives Ronan, Conor & Niall Daly, Hubert D'Arcy and David Murray. Well done also to Tom Butler who won an All Ireland Trench Cup Medal on Saturday with Mary Immaculate College, playing the final quarter in the middle of the field for the Limerick college.
Under Age Football
Our U16 Div 1 footballers made the short journey to Ballyforan Sunday to take on the locals St Aidans. On murky conditions , both sides went at it from the start and Aidans were unlucky not to have a few early scores on the board. Eventually, the Pearses lads got their game in motion and rattled off 6 points in a row before Aidans took a score of their own . A well worked goal by Jack Tumulty before Half time killed the game off..HT Pearses 1.11 , Aidans 0.01
We brought on our 4 subs but it was the Hosts who started the stronger with 1.01 before we got on the mark with a Eoin McManus Free . From here on in , both teams swapped points with Pearses finishing the stronger . James Costello played well in goal with some great Catches and Kickouts . Our defence of Sherrin , Lohan, Burke, Walsh , Keogh and Moore were exceptional especially Connell Moore and Arron Burke who was tenacious throughout .
Midfield pairing of Downey and Mcmanus worked well together with Downey's replacement Kyle Blackweir popping up with 2 good second half points . The forward unit of Shane Costello, Colleran, Carey, Fehilly, Daithi Blackweir and Tumulty were a constant threat to Aidans and there was some wonderful movements in which good scores came from. A special mention to Luke Fehilly and Jack Tumulty who had great opening halves  ! Our other replacements of Adam Mcgreal, Conor Costello and Conor Blackweir all made telling contributions , so overall, a good days work but we will have to improve when we take on Brigids March 11th in Woodmount . Final Score Pearses 2.17- Aidans 1.05.
