Club Notes September 7

Senior Football

Our Paul Flynn sponsored senior footballers took on neighbours Clann na Gael, live on TG4 last weekend in the senior football semi-final. What can only be described as edge of the seat stuff, saw Pearses close out the game by the tightest of margins to win by 1.11 to 1.10. They now take their place in the 2nd county final in a row and will play St. Brigids on Sept 20. Venue and Time TBD.

Junior A Football

Our Rosgal Loss Assessors played their final group game needing a win to guarantee our quarter final spot. A strong start and first half performance gave us a commanding lead at half time. In the second half we kept the scoreboard ticking over and didn’t let Elphin back into the match. The win following our impressive performance the last day out against Kilglass quarantees our spot in the quarter finals. Score: 1.15 to 0.02.

U16 Girls Football Championship

Congratulations to the girls U16 footballers who won the Division 2 B championship last week on a scoreline of 0-12 to 2-4 vs St Dominic’s. This is a very young panel with only 6 of the 24 girls actually U16 while the rest is U15. Over the championship the girls have just been superb and were desperately unlucky not to be featuring in the Div 2A final. This game was a carbon copy of our earlier championship game vs Dominic’s which we won by 3 points. We created goal chance after goal chance however just could not convert. After been 07- 01 up, we allowed Dominic’s back into it. They got to within 1 with a few minutes left and it looked by Dominics were going to push on and win. Since U12, this bunch of girls character shone bright and just refuse to be beaten. They steadied the ship and scored 2 points to lead by 3 with a few minutes remaining. Dominic’s kicked a further point and one brilliant save by our keeper Ella Greene secured the win. It was a fitting finish to the season. The future is bright for this young group of players and we ensured that all girls got significant game time throughout the season.

Panel as follows: Ella Greene, Eimear Hynes, Aoife Keogh, Aoife Cruise, Emma Mc Greal, Aiveen Curley, Mia Walsh, Ciara Lohan, Arlene Cunningham, Rosa Monaghan, Amelia Halpin Charlotte Blackweir Rebecca Cruise, Blaithnaid Kelly, Ciara Keogh, Chloe Costelloe, Marianne Monaghan, Katie Mulry, Katie Murray, Hannah Kelly, Katie Curley, Ava Mulry, Jennifer Downey, Lorna Cruise

U16 Boys Championship

Final score Padraig Pearses 2-9, Kilbride 3-6

Our PJ Kenny sponsored boys played their penultimate game in the league stage of the C’ship vs Kilbride last friday night in Woodmount. Seeing the best midfield pairing in the County on the bench due to injuries meant we were always going to up against it facing a good Kilbride side. Aided by a strong breeze we kicked some good early points, one which was exquisite from the sideline. Leading by 4 points to 1, we were caught badly by 2 goals in as many minutes and headed into half time behind 2-2 to 0-5. Kilbride kicked an early score to extend the lead and we were beginning to struggle. With 10 minutes remaining we were 7 down. We started to dominate and a goal on the 50 minute mark seem to inspire the lads. We tagged on a point with 4 left and it was game on. Deep into injury time, we were awarded a free 13 metres out and a thunderous shot to the roof of the net had us level. One more play and Kilbride had a chance to win it, however a brilliant turnover finished the game. A great result and one which will be crucial in deciding the knock out stages. No names mentioned here as it would be so unfair to pick out any performance as each and every one of the lads just dug deep and played brilliantly. Well done to all. Final score PP 2-9, Kilbride 3-6

Padraig Pearses V Western Gaels 31/8/20

Final Score Peares 6-9 Western Gaels 1-12

Our PJ Kenny sponsored u16 boys continued their championship away to Western Gaels in Frenchpark in perfect conditions with a comprehensive win. Despite the scoreline, it was a hard-fought contest from beginning to end and our boys showed great determination throughout. Pearses burst out of the blocks with a number of goals in the first, third and ninth minute. This laid a great foundation early in the game. What was also very encouraging was the fact that we had a number of different scorers from many positions of the field. Shane Glennon led the charge with an outstanding display between the posts. He pulled off a number of good saves and his kickouts were exemplary. In the backline Cian Grenham was vigorous in defence and he was ably assisted by Luke Kenny, Ryan Kelly, Mikey Cruise and Jack Ryan. A central role in the middle of the field was played by Abdullah Shahid and Conor Harley who covered a huge amount of ground throughout the game. They contested every kickout and won the majority of the ball in the middle of the field. Up front there were very encouraging displays by all of our forwards. Cathal Carty and Darragh Moore were immense in winning their own possession and were duly assisted by Adam McGreal, Keelan Ryan and Sean Canning. All panel members made a significant contribution when introduced. These included David Hoey, Charlie Mooney, James Harrington, Ben Dolan and Fionn Lyons.

Overall the players should be pleased with their performance but with more improvement required as the championship progresses. Many thanks to all of the parents who brought their son to the game. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

The final score was Pearses 6-9 Western Gaels 1-12.
