U16 Hurling
Hard luck to our U16 hurlers who lost the county final on Sunday against a very strong Four Roads team. Thanks to the players and their parents for their commitment during the year. Thanks also to the teams mentors, Cathy Glennon, Padraig Dooley, Jimmy Donoghue, Dermot Flynn, Frank Canning and Seamus Mooney for the time and effort they put in over the whole season.
Under 14 Div 4 shield football final Padraig Pearses Vs Western Gaels
On a beautiful Sunday morning in Oran, these two teams faced off again after an extremely tight game earlier in the season. The physically stronger Western Gaels came out of the traps with two early well-taken goals of near-identical fashion. Their number 10 broke in off the right-hand wing running at pace and finished both with venom and power. Pearses remained calm and with a couple of positive positional changes in defence brought themselves right back into the game. Eoin Canning finished a cross-field pass from Daragh Colleran into the net and the game came to life. Despite the physical difference, Pearses young team started to play some fluid football. This was built on a foundation from the full-back and centre halfback, Hugh Curley and Jack Flynn, both who were outstanding from the outset.
The team undeterred by the fast start by Gaels went in at half time with a well deserved two-point lead.
A furious start to the second half saw Pearses race into a considerable lead. This was down to a huge work rate and complete teamwork. Full credit to Gaels who never gave up and came back with some fine scores but the defence unit was not going to be outdone. Playing as a unit they crowded out Gaels on numerous occasions. The forward play by Cormac Moore and Cathal O’Brien, and Ben Dolan causes unrelenting pressure on the Gaels backline. Pearses ran out well deserved nine-point winners on a score of 5:09 to 4:04.
Padraig Pearses squad: Barry McGowan, Joe Lennon, Hugh Curley, Luke Earls, Kellan Kelly, Jack Flynn, Aaron Hogan, Cillian Blackweir Darragh Colleran, Ronan Shearan, Ben Dolan, Cathal O’Brien, Jack Johnson, Eoin Canning, Padriac Lennon, Conor Kelly, Conor Flynn, Cormac Moore Darragh O’Sullivan, Fionann Seale.
