U12 Boys Football
On Saturday morning our U12’s made the short trip to Johnstown to play our hosts Clan in both the Division 1 & Division 5 Spring League.
In the Division 1 game the squads improvement in effort and performance with each passing week resulted in a close but deserved 10-9 win. The lads are showing that their skills are noticeably improving which is as a result of their commitment and dedication in training.
The same can be said for our Division 5 squad who were somewhat unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a 12-8 score line.
The structure of the league allows us to interchange players between both squads ensuring that everyone gets maximum game time between both matches.
Our next game is scheduled to be at home to Castlerea next week.
Our PJ Kenny Bed and Furniture sponsored Minor football team had a great win in the Division 2 League Final after extra time against Elphin/Ballinameen. The game was played in excellent conditions in Knockcroghery. Elphin opened the scoring with 2 points before Jason Cunningham and Eoin Colleran leveled the scores. Elphin were passing the ball a lot better and pushed ahead with some fine scores. Our full back line of Keelan Galvin Conor Lohan and Luke Corbett started to get to grips with the fast ball coming in and their distribution the ball with our midfield we started to move the ball better. Elphin pushed on with some good points. RORY Ryan at corner forward Richard Browne and Thomas CAREY on the wings we started to to pass better resulting with Eoin Colleran replying for Pearses. We were 2 points down at half time 0-7 to 0-5. The boys knew themselves that a bigger effort would be needed in the second half. We started the half moving the ball at pace and we created some great opportunities but a great save from a penalty and some unlucky shots for points we would have in front. Elphin came down the field and scored a good point. Our half back line of Jason Cunningham Eoin McManus and Calum Keogh along with Daniel Farrell and Jack Downey in midfield got on top and kicked in great ball into our forward line and from this we got a great goal from Padraig Galvin and points from Eoin Keogh and Daniel Farrell we started to get on top. Another excellent passing move resulted in Daniel Farrell scoring a great goal. Jack Tumulty entered at half time and his running at the defense created great chances. James Costello pulled off an excellent save and we scored another point from his clearance. We were 6 points up with as many minutes left and to their credit Elphin never gave up and leveled the game with a point from a free with the last kick of the game. This brought the game into extra time. The fresh legs of Kyle Blackweir we again started to get on top. Eoin Keogh and Eoin Colleran kicked great points and we won the game by 5 points. To a man this team dug deep and fought for every ball. Everyone on the panel deserve great credit for their performances today.

Our PJ Kenny Bed and Furniture sponsored U16s Div 4 team played their final league game against Brigids last Friday in Woodmount . It was a beautiful evening for football and both teams served up an entertaining game . There was very little between both but for a few soft goals conceded by the home team . James Mooney was our top scorer with 3 points from midfield . Final Score : Pearses 1.08, Brigids 5.02..
These games were very worthwhile as it gave Game Opportunities to our extended panel . We hope to compete again during the summer months .
U14 Girls Football:
U14 Girls Football Div 1 and 4: Our U14 girls football are having a busy week. Last night our Div 1 team recorded a 4 point win at home to Shannon Gales in the first round of the League. Our girls were superb from start to finish and led throughout. We were relatively comfortable throughout the game however conceded two late goals to finish only 4 point victors. On Monday our Div 4 side has a tougher evening at home to Clan na Gael. At half time we were only 4 points down however we conceded some unfortunate goals which took the impetus out of the girls and Clan ran out comfortable winners. Great to say that everyone of the 27 girls played a full game this week and this will bring them all on significantly. U14 Girls Football: Our Div 1 team chalked up their second win of the week with a win at home against St Brigids on Friday evening. As on Wednesday our girls played lovely flowing football and led by 3-5 to 0-3 at the break. We retreated somewhat in the second half but were excellent on the break and ran out 6-5 to 1-8 winners. Whilst Brigids were down 1 or 2 players, our girls played with great spirt, fantastic attitude and no shortage of skills.
U16 Boys Football:
Our PJ Kenny Bed and Furniture U16 team put the defence of the U16 league up against Clan na Gael Tuesday evening in Johnston. This defence started in whirlwind fashion as we raced into a 7 points to 3 lead approaching half time after 5 points from Eoin Colleran and 2 from Jack Tumulty. We looked well in control but a lucky goal from Clan and a late point meant the the sides went in level at half time. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the effort up and were always playing catch up in the second half when Clan scored 3 unanswered points. A well taken penalty pushed Clan 6 points up and left us with an uphill task to rescue the game. Credit to the lads they never gave up and pushed Clan all the way to the end. A well taken goal by Declan Kenny and 2 pointed frees by Eoin Colleran meant that we entered the last few minutes needing a goal to rescue the game. A superb move gave us a chance but the Clan defence smothered the shot and the ball was cleared to the sound of the final whistle leaving the final score Pearses 1-9, Clan na Gael 2-9. The management would like to thank the squad for their efforts during the league and can look forward to the upcoming championship. Squad: Terry McGowan, Conor Costello, Luke Walsh, Aaron Burke, Ryan Kelly, Caelim Keogh, Conor Ryan, Daithi Blackweir, Abdullah Sahid, Shane Costello, Jack Tumulty, Adam McGreal, Declan Kenny, Eoin Colleran, Luke Feehily, Sean Canning, James Mooney, Colm Sherrin, Cormac Curley, Adam Hynes, Fionnan Darcy, Luke Galvin, Ciaran Curley, Cian Grenham, Cathal Curley.
Minor Hurling Semi-Final
Roscommon Gaels 5-19
Padraig Pearses 3-12
Our Mckeons Sand and Gravel Sponsored Minor hurling team bowed out of this years championship at the semi-final stage Wednesday evening May 1st in idyllic weather conditions in Ballyforan. It was agreed by ref lines men and umpires that it was a cracker of a match which went to extra time and after emptying the bench of the subs Sean Canning Colm Sheeran and James Mooney Pearses levelled the game with 5 minutes remaining but the persistence of Gaels numbers 8 and 10 was relentless which paid off for them to win with a late goal and point. It was a high scoring encounter lead by Eoin Colleran, Patrick Grehan, Luke Corbett, Ronan Hanrahan, Joseph Kelly, Thomas Carey and Michael Kelly. Hard luck to the lads and thanks to the teams mentors Tom Corbett, Kieran Doyle, David Loughnane and Shane Sweeney for their good work so far this year with this group.
Our Pennywell sponsored U14 Hurling team were in Carnmore Monday evening for a Galway league game. The lads played some good hurling and got some impressive scores but came up short in the end losing out 5-03 to 7-04. Best of luck to the team and Mentors in the Feile Final against Four Roads.
Our Eastern Electrical sponsored U12 hurling team play their first competitive match of the season when they play Meelick-Eyrecourt Wednesday evening at 6.30pm in Pearses in the Galway league.
