Tansey Cup
Our RosGal Loss Assessors played Round 6 of the Tansey Cup against St. Barry's on Sunday afternoon last at Woodmount.  A David Grehan goal was our first score of the game, and put us in a strong position as we played against a strong wind in the opening period. Further scores from Aaron Feehily and David Grehan (play and free) put us two points up but a goal for the visitors cancelled them out and left the visitors a point ahead. A most peculiar incident involving the match official and a Pearses player resulted in us being reduced to fourteen men before the half time break. The second half continued to be a very well contested affair, with both teams trading scores and neither establishing a big lead. Pearses second half scores came from Andrew Flood, David Grehan, Shane Carty, Shane Downey, with the pick of them being a super sideline ball from the 45 meter line by Grehan. There was a long stoppage after Tom Richardson took a heavy shoulder to the head, after which the two teams were left with fourtee a piece on the field. As normal time came to a conclusion, we led by two points when a long ball into our square led to the award of a dubious penalty which was well converted. Unfortunately the fifty seconds of additional time which were played were not enough time for us to work the ball down the field for an equaliser. This was a fantastic effort by our players, who competed very well against Intermediate Championship opposition. Hopefully, with the return of a number of panelists who were unavailable due to other commitments we can secure the required points in our remaining three games to survive in the Tansey Cup. Our next game in this competition is away to Kilglass Gaels on Saturday 8th June @ 7pm.  Squad: Adam McManus, Brenden Connor, Shane Carty, Tom Richardson, Shane Kenny, Shane Downey, Mike Downey, Andrew Flood, Anthony Butler, Aaron Johnston, Aaron Feehily, Jake Curley, Eoin Curran, David Grehan, Matthew Feehily, Jamie Curley, Ian Curley, Keelan Daly.

U14 Division 4 League
On Thursday evening, May 23, our under 14 Division 4 team made the trip to Frenchpark to play the final of the spring league. The team took the field made up predominantly of under 13s and against a very strong and experienced Western gales team there was some worry that we may have been physically outmatched. Nothing could have been further from the truth. The first half was fast paced and tackling hard, and early in the game Pearses lost one of their star forwards, Jack Johnson to an Achilles injury. Jack was replaced seamlessly by a very brave Ross Glynn who despite his youth took to his task fearlessly. Pearses, compliments of fast-breaking from the back through Cormac Moore and Keelan Kelly we’re unfortunate not to head into half time with a lead under their belts. The final ball show just let us down at times. Two goals by Western gales in quick succession were answered by two fine points from Cathal O’Brien had the gap back to four at half time. Just before the end of the half Pearses lost the hugely influential Jack Flynn, who as always had worked tirelessly, to injury. The second half found Western Gales come flying out of the traps and they found the net again and seemed to be scoring at their ease. A couple of minutes in and they had raced out to an eleven point lead. The day seemed like it was lost. But that is not what this bunch of Pearses lads believed. With a newly shaped team to counteract the laps of the players from the first half Pearses dug deep and fired back. Two well-worked goals and the attacking running of the back line to assist their forwards started a Pearses revival. For me the man of the match Darragh Colleran seemed to be everywhere. In the backs interplaying with Luke Earls and Hugh Curley one minute and breaking balls down in midfield with Eoin Canning the next minute. He was exemplary. Conor Flynn won some valuable frees in the forward line which were duly dispatched and this match was far from over. A brilliantly taken goal by our full back Hugh Curley brought is back to the fore and it looked like Western Gales were on the ropes. But a quick break by them moving the ball at speed found Pearses with just one back facing three rampaging forwards. Despite a brave attempt by Barry McGowan in goal they were not to be denied. Western Gaels were back in front again. With seconds left in the game Pearses launched one last attack and with some great movement, Cathal O’Brien unleashed a final effort towards goal which was just saved off the line. It was one of the best performances by this group of young men and the tenacity they showed to fight their way back into a game that seemed lost bodes well for the club. Final score 4:7 to 5:6.
Under 14 Division 4 team: Barry McGowan, Hugh Curley, Luke Earls, Joe Lennon, Keelan Kelly, Darragh Colleran, Cormac Moore, Jack Flynn, Cathal O’Brien, Padraig Lennon, Eoin Canning, Jack Johnson, Conor Flynn, Darragh O’Sullivan, Ben Dolan, Ross Glynn and Aaron Hogan.
