U14 Girls Football Div 1 C’ship: Our U14 girls kicked off their Div 1 Championship with a win vs St Dominic’s in Woodmount on Monday evening on a score line of 5-10 to 1-6. On a fabulous evening the girls put in a tremendous performance. We were out of the traps early with 2 early points followed by a goal. Dominic’s responded immediately with a goal. This seemed to focus the minds and we added 4-6 without reply to leave us very comfortable at the break on a score of 5-8 to 1-0. In fairness, there was a very stiff breeze and the second half was always going to be more difficult. We defended superbly and some of the tackling and turnovers were really good. We never looked in any real trouble and finished strongly. Good start for the girls. On Sunday our Div 4 side were beaten by Ros Gaels. This was a very brave performance and across both games, all the girls got plenty of football. Just to add that both visiting teams commented on the fantastic state of the pitch.
Under 14 Girls Football Div 1 Championship:
Our under 14 girls travelled to Ballinlough on Sunday evening to take on Michael Glaveys in the second round of the Division 1 Championship. Credit to players and parents who made the trip down in storm like conditions. Torrential rain and strong winds made playing conditions extremely difficult for both sides. With a strong breeze in the first half the girls got off to a great start playing some fast paced direct football. The link up play from midfield through the half forward line into the full forward line was excellent. With alot of possession for the first half we went in at half time with a considerable lead of 3-6 to 0-1. The second half was considerably difficult with the wind and rain stronger than the first. Playing into the wind a huge effort was put in by our defence and midfield lines having to carry alot of ball out of defence. Quick movement and again good link up play by our half forward line and full forward line seen us
Padraig Pearses U16 Reserve league.
Our U16 second team backed up by some U14 players took on Clan na Gael this morning in Pearses. The lads executed some excellent moves during a good first half but unfortunately the scoring boots were left behind as excellent scoring chances were passed up time after time. Half time score left us trailing 1-6 to 3-3. However the half time pep talk certainly worked and with more composure and willingness to find a better placed colleague resulted in excellent scores throughout a dominant second half display which saw us finish up well deserving winners at the end 6-12 to 4 8.
