Club Notes July 15

Junior Football - Tansey Cup
Our RosGal Loss Assessors / Northcrest Construction Junior A’s made the trip to Croghan on Sunday for Round 7 of the Tansey Cup. We were short a number of regulars but the fifteen who travelled took the field determined to put up a performance against Intermediate Championship opposition.
We started well and were going well in the game for the opening minutes but a couple of lapses of work rate let the home team in for two goals in quick succession. There were plenty of missed chances on both sides and by half time we went in trailing by eight, 2-5 to 0-3 with our scores coming from Sean Ryan, Niall Finneran and Aaron Feehily.
We needed a big second-half performance and started well with a Tom Butler point directly from the throw-in. This was followed by a trio from Sean Ryan which brought the margin back to 4.
Eamon Donoghue, Aaron Feehily and Niall Finneran got the next three before the goal we needed was delivered, Niall Finneran holding off the full back before finishing past the keeper at the near post.
We continued to improve across the field and the introduction of the arriving cavalry gave fresh legs that were needed in the 25 degree heat. Sean Ryan and Aaron Feehily scored two apiece to round off our scoring and leave us three ahead going into injury time. The final day went to the home side as they rattled the net a third time to ensure a share of the spoils and a point apiece. Full-time Pearses 1-14 Shannon Gaels 3-8.
Sincere thanks to our 3 minor footballers who travelled from Enfield to Croghan after their own great result in round one of the minor championship to provide cover for injuries and tired legs in the final quarter. Congratulations to Rory Ryan and Jason Cunningham who both made their adult Football debuts in this game.

U10/U8 Hurling

On a beautiful sunny morning for hurling we welcomed over 130 young boys to Pearses for an U8 and an U10 blitz last Sunday. All our U10 and U8 boys acquitted themselves very well and all got to play every match. Its great to see the continued improvement of these young players as they train and play more matches. Many thanks to the other clubs for travelling and the large number of parents for their support. Thanks also to our mentors, Micheal Flynn, Dara Mulvey, Rob Nolan, Damien Cunniffe, Padraig Dooley and Liam Dolan for their coordination and organisation of the blitz.
