Club Notes August 31

Senior Football Championship
Our Paul Flynn sponsored senior footballers played Roscommon Gaels in Ballyforan on Sunday August 30.  It was certainly a game of two halves as Pearses led by the narrowest of margins at half time - 9points to 8points.
The second half saw Pearses take a strong lead who finished out the game with 19points to Roscommon Gaels 9 points.
Pearses will now take on Clann na Gael next weekend in the senior football semi-final which will be live on TG4.

Minor Footballers

The PJ Kenny Furniture & Bedding sponsored minor team had a good win against Roscommon Gaels in the final group game last Tuesday evening in Hyde Park. Two early goals playing against a strong breeze set the tone and the lads never looked back winning on a score line of 4.07, 1.06.

This sets us up with a home Semi Final next weekend as we await the winners of Boyle/St. Brigids.

U12 Summer league Div 1 semi final 29.8.20

Padraig Pearses v Clann na Gael

The U12 boys division 1 squad took on Clann na Gael in Johnstown on Aug 29 in the division 1 semi-final.

With the shadow boxing from the previous encounter out of the way, both teams served up a brilliant high scoring game.

In sunny but breezy conditions Clann na Gael took the game to Pearses early on through 3 quick scores against the wind. Pearses gradually got back on level terms and then hit a purple patch to lead by 5 points at half time. The football in this period was a pleasure to watch particularly the forward play. This, coupled with tenacious defending laid the foundation for this advantage on the scoreboard.

For the second half a real battle ensued and Clann once again clawed their way back to narrow the gap to two points. Pearses once again rallied through talisman John Price to lead by 5 points at the final water break.

As the pressure mounted Pearses rose spectacularly to the occasion and held firm to win the game 18 to 14.

The lads should be very proud of themselves. They all gave 100 %. And showed huge desire to win the game.

Niall Doran was brilliant in goal all day. In defence Jason Carty, Jack Brooks, David Downey, Enda Browne and Shane Carty all had commanding performances.

Donnacha Monaghan and Michael Brooks worked extremely hard, the latter booming over a super point in the dying moments.

Upfront the forwards really delivered, work rate, tackling, and brilliant scores. Danny Goode, Dylan Goode, Fionn O' Brien, Keelan Doran, Euan Kelly and John Price were all excellent.

Emmet Kileen also got game time after a long injury layoff and acquitted himself well.

We now play Roscommon Gaels in the final. The division 6 squad also compete in the shield final.

Division 1 panel on the day was: N Doran, S Carty, J Carty, J Brooks, M Brooks, D Downey. F o Brien, E Browne, D Monaghan, J Price, E Kelly, Dylan Goode, K Doran, Dan Goode, D Cruise, S Finneran, E Kileen.  (Picture Attached)
