Club Notes April 8

Tansey Cup Round Two
The Ros Gal Loss Assessors / Northcrest Civil Engineering Junior Football team played our second Intermediate Championship opposition in a week, this time against Creggs in Woodmount on Saturday evening last. After a spirited performance in the first half, we were very unlucky to go in trailing by two goals, 2-7 to 0-7. In the second half despite all six of our forwards getting on the scoreboard, along with two great points by midfielder Eoin Galvin, our oppositions superior fitness told as the half went on. Overall this game showed good improvement from our first game and gives us something to build on for next week. O’Rourke Cup Round Two
Our Paul Flynn Construction Senior Footballers continued our winning start to 2019 against St. Faithleachs on Sunday afternoon last. An early Hubert Darcy goal put us into a lead that we never lost, and further first-half scores from Conor Payne, Sean Fahy, Emmet Kelly, and Paul Carey put us five ahead at half time after playing with the breeze. The first fifteen minutes of the second half was dominated by the visitors but as the game entered the final quarter David Murray was fouled bearing down on goal, and Hubert Darcy scored the resultant penalty. Further points from midfielders Conor Daly and Anthony Butler helped close out an eight-point win, 3-8 to 0-9. Well done to Aaron Johnston who made his first Senior League start and Jake Curley on his first Senior appearance. 3rd Win in Minor League
Our PJ Kenny sponsored Minor team had their 3rd win in the Minor league against Elphin/Ballinameen in Woodmount on Friday evening last. Pearses started the game well moving the ball at pace and were rewarded with scores from Eoin Colleran, Thomas Carey, Jason Cunningham and Jack Tumulty. Elphin responded well 3 points from play. Our back line was strong in defence and with good link play we started to get on top. We finished the half strongly with further points from Eoin Colleran and an excellent 45 from James Costello. Elphin added another score before halftime leaving the score 0-9 to 0-4 to Pearses. The second half was played at a great pace by both teams. Elphin came right back into the game with a goal and a point. Pearses replied with scores from Eoin Colleran and Richie Browne. Another goal from Elphin had them right back in the game. U14 hurlers qualify for Roscommon Feile Semi-Final

Our u14 hurlers qualified for the Roscommon semi-final final with an excellent win against a talented St Dominics side. The final scoreline does not reflect how tough this game was and both teams should be proud of their efforts.  Playing with a strong breeze in the first half, Pearses tried to use this to their advantage. And at first, St Dominics stood up to an early onslaught. However, a point each from Charlie Mooney and Keelan Ryan settled the home side. Eoin Canning, Jack Flynn, and Keelan Finneran cause all sorts of trouble for the visitors and when they forced a 65, Jack Ryan goaled directly. St Dominics pushed to get back in the game but Daragh Colleran was dominant in the air at full back, and Hugh Curley and James Harrington mopped up any loose ball that could cause trouble. Shane Glennon and Fionnan Seale provided Pearses with an excellent attacking platform, and Jack Nevin used his pace to get away from his marker and goaled. A further point for Charlie Mooney and 2 points from the ever industrious Keelan Ryan, gave Pearses a significant cushion at half time with a scoreline of 2-5 to 0-0. Conditions deteriorated at the start of the second half, but both teams efforts did not. St Dominics came out all guns blazing and scored an early goal to start clawing back some of Pearses lead. It was nip and tuck for the next while, and when St Dominics got another goal, they game was well and truly on. Pearses were under pressure and Cillian Blackweir, Padraig Lennon and Conor Kelly created chances for Pearses to push further ahead. But, it was a case of right man, right place, right time when Conor Flynn took advantage of some hesitation in St Dominics defence and finished neatly to the net to give Pearses some breathing space. St Dominics threw everything at Pearses, but Luke Earls, Sean Hogan and Jack Ryan never allowed any space to the St Dominics attackers. St Dominics created one final chance, but Dylan Ryan came up with a fantastic save to deter them. And when marksman Charlie Mooney finished a well worked move to raise a green flag, Pearses ran out winners.  Panel : Dylan Ryan, James Harrington, Daragh Colleran, Hugh Curley, Sean Hogan, Jack Ryan (1-0), Fionnan Seale, Shane Glennon, Jack Nevin (1-0), Jack Flynn, Cillian Blackweir, Keelan Ryan (0-3), Charlie Mooney (1-2), Eoin Canning, Keelan Finneran, Conor Flynn (1-0), Padraig Lennon, Conor Kelly, Luke Earls
