Our U16 PJ Kenny sponsored football team played last Tuesday night on a near perfect night for Football, Clann na Gael and Padraig Pearses served up an entertaining game in Round 3 of the League in Johnstown. The visitors started brightly with some great movement of the ball and were unlucky not the have scored a goal. Clann opened the scoring with a point, with Pearses firing over the next three. It was nip and tuck up to when Clann found the net when there was some hesitancy in the Pearsesgoalmouth. Half Time 1.07, 0.06. The second half started with a fantastic goal from James Mooney who bet the Clann keeper from 25 yards into the Top Corner. A point from Eoin Colleran levelled the game so was all to play for. The home team began to dominate around the middle third, and scores came easy with a goal and 3 points in a row. Pearses rallied in the final ten minutes to close the game to one score but the home side finished with a point to leave 4 between them in the end. The PJ Kenny U16 team also played Kilmore/Shannon Gaels last Sunday in Kilmore. Final score 6-10 to 1-8. It was a comprehensive team performance with some excellent scores. Playing with the wind in the first half, we led by 7 at the break. Kilmore pulled it back to 5 early in the second half but some great scores moved us out of sight. Our main scorers on the day were Declan Kenny, Eoin Colleran and Jack Tumulty and ably assisted by Adam Mc Greal and Luke Feehily. Our PJ Kenny sponsored Minor team beat Roscommon Gaels by 5 points last Friday night. The game was played in Woodmount in a perfect evening for football. Pearses started brightly, with points from Eoin Colleran Daniel Farrell and Jack Tumulty before Gaels got their first score. We added further points before conceding a goal and a point. Half time score Pearses 0-10 Roscommon Gaels 1-02. The second half was a lot closer and Gaels came more into the game scoring some excellent points. We stayed slightly in front with points from Eoin Colleran. The game turned in our favour when a great team move ended with Declan Kenny scoring a great goal. It was a great team performance on the night with some excellent passages of kick passing and fielding. Final score Pearses 2-13 Roscommon Gaels 2-08. Our U11 footballers (pictured below) had a great win in the final of the Ballinasloe tournament on Sunday morning, played in Ballinasloe. On a perfect morning for football our lads showcased the fine skills they have been learning at training. There were some fine examples of hand passing, kick passing and scoring on show today from both sides. Training continues Monday nights @ 7pm.
