Club Notes 8/10/17

Senior Hurling Final:

In what was one of the most historic days in recent Club History, Padraig Pearses Senior Hurlers bridged the gap back to the great Pearses team of the mid 1980s to claim our first Senior Hurling title in Thirty years. It was heartening to see the level of support in Athleague for the win over Four Roads. There were emotional scenes after the game both on the pitch and on the drive home, with a great turn out for the Home coming. Our Congratulations to the panel on a Job well done, Our thanks to our many loyal Supporters and Sponsors and particular acknowledgement to the Management, Selectors and backroom team on finally bringing the Micky Cunniffe trophy to Woodmount, Go raibh maith agaibh go leir..

U12 Division 2 shield semi final, Pearses 0-21, Kilbride 0-8.

We travelled to Kilbride Monday evening to play Kilbride under lights. For the first time in a long time we almost had a full panel, which gave us extra power especially in the forwards. Kilbride had already beaten us in the league and we were expecting a tight match, however our lads got going from the start and some great scores left us 0-13 to 0-3 at half time, we got out of the blocks again in the second half and put a further 8 points on the board to Kilbrides 5, scorers on the day were Hugh Curley, Mikey Cruise, Jack Nevin, Keelan Ryan, Cathal O' Brien, Charlie Mooney and Cillian Blackweir. Our team, Shane Glennon, Luke Kenny, Fionn Lyons, Hugh Curley, Mikey Cruise, James Butler, Jack Nevin, Keelan Ryan, James Harrington, Cathal O' Brien, Charlie Mooney, Cillian Blackweir, Ben Dolan, subs Aaron Grenham, Eoghan Killeen, Conor Kelly, Wiktor Borowski, Ronan Sheerin, all subs got a game. The final should be played soon with our division 5 side also in the playoffs

U14 Girls Div2 Championship Semi Final Padraig Pearses 7-12 St Ciarans 4-16

On Sunday evening our U14 girls booked their place in this years championship final with a very hard fought and intense semi final against St Ciarans. In the first half the Ciarans forward line were well on top of our backs. This was reflected on the scoreboard at the interval with our girls trailing by 6 points on a scoreline of 2-3 to 2-9. A bit of self-reflection at half time and some positional changes saw us close the gap to 1 point with 10 mins remaining. Entering the home straight Ciarans again extended their lead with a well taken goal. However the Pearses girls, as they have done many times this season, rallied and in the final few minutes dominated possession. With Ciarans pinned back we scored 2-3 without reply, to run out 5 point winners. As the other semi final was a drawn game, the date and final opponents have yet to be decided. A big thank you to all parents and large number of supporters who made for a great atmosphere. Panel: Rebecca Cruise, Jessica Greene, Jo Ann Curley, Aoife Cruise, Leah Hogarty, Keira Keogh, Shauna Bergin, Aliyah Ryan, Clodagh Powell, Rosa Monaghan, Aoife Keogh, Shana Hibbitt, Jane Creavin, Katie Murray, Ruth Doyle, Eimear Hynes, Katie Mullry, Ava Mullry, Charlotte Blackweir, Ella Greene, Amelia Halpin, Nicola Curley.
